Eric Konicki, MD
After completing his fellowship in Clinical Psychopharmacology research in the Intramural Research Program at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), Dr. Konicki accepted appointments as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at CWRU and a Staff Physician at the Louis Stokes Cleveland DVAMC (LSCDVAMC (1992-present). He has served as Chief of Psychiatry at VAMC since 2003. His responsibilities have included clinical service, research, teaching, and administration. Dr. Konicki obtained his DATA 2000 waiver status so that he could provide suboxone therapy to individuals with opioid use disorder. This grew out of his work on overdose prevention education and naloxone distribution (OEND) due to the public health crisis of opioid misuse. In response to the burgeoning epidemic of accidental death by overdose with licit and illicit opioids in Ohio, he has established the first VA opioid overdose prevention education and naloxone distribution (OEND) program in 2013. In addition, Dr. Konicki has expanded the availability of suboxone treatment for Opioid Use Disorder (office-based suboxone treatment (OBT) in all of the general mental health clinics at LSCDVAMC.
